“The Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt has issued an injunction against the Speaker of the state Assembly aligned with Chief Nyesom Wike, and 24 other lawmakers, barring them from representing themselves as members of the Rivers State Assembly.

The order was delivered by Justice Charles N. Wali in response to a case filed by Victor Oko Jumbo, the new Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, alongside Sokari Goodboy and Orubienimigha Timothy, members of the Assembly.

The suit, numbered PHC/1512/CS/2024, names Martin Amaewhule and 24 others, as well as the Governor of Rivers State, the state Attorney General, and the Chief Judge.

Justice Wali granted the motion ex parte after hearing from Sammie A. Somiari, SAN, along with B. N. Owunabo, Esq, and others representing the claimants/applicants, directing Amaewhule to cease acting as a lawmaker. It’s worth noting that Amaewhule and his 24 colleagues had previously switched from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).”
